Hump Day Hike!

July Hike Location: Bear Paw Ski Loop

Come and hike away the stresses of the week with this monthly, after work evening hike. Hike locations will change each month and will cover various terrains, lengths, and difficulty levels. Come to one or come to all! We will be sure to see something different each time.

Wild about Teas HIKE 

JULY 25, 10:00am – 12:00pm

Across the globe people have used local plants to make tea. Join guest instructor Vince Curtis on a moderate 2-mile hike as he points out wild plants that can be turned into delicious teas. We will collect some plants along the trail and make a pot of tea part-way through the hike. Star-lit Skywatch

As the day turns into night and the stars begin to shine, join the Central Pennsylvania Observers (CPO) to see and learn about the many incredible sights of the night sky. After a short presentation, we will head outside and use both telescopes and the naked eye to view a variety of celestial objects. You may bring your own telescopes or use ones provided by the CPO. If there is bad weather and viewing the sky is not possible, there will be an indoor presentation provided as an alternative. Camping Guidelines for Tiadaghton State Forest

Bureau of Forestry Guidelines for E-Bikes

The Bureau of Forestry has received requests from individuals regarding the legality of using an electric pedal assisted bicycle (E-bike) on Pennsylvania State Forest trails already open to mountain bikes. E-Bikes are based on the concept of augmenting, not replacing, human power to move from one place to another. These types of bikes have an electronic control system that senses the rider’s effort (rear wheel torque and/or speed) and then augments that effort by supplying power from an on-board battery to an electric motor that also powers the rear wheel. The electric motor not only “pulls its own weight” but makes pedaling easier for the biker. The result is that the rider can travel longer distances with less physical effort. 

In reviewing the information available about these bikes, the Bureau of Forestry will now accept the use of Class 1 E-bikes on trails open to mountain bikes provided they meet ALL the following standards: 

1. Have an electric motor less than 750 watt 

2. Have fully functional pedals 

3. Have a weight not more than 75 pounds 

4. Have a maximum speed <20 MPH 

5. Does not have the capability of being
