Emergency Flood Repairs Continue on Little Pine Creek Road in Lycoming County

Little Pine State Park open on a limited basis. Shooting and archery range are now open and there are limited picnic facilities open in the day use areas.

Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provides an update on Little Pine Creek Road (Route 4001) and Little Pine State Park in Cummings Township, Lycoming County.

Emergency Repairs

On Friday, September 6, 2024 through Saturday, September 14, 2024, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, will continue the emergency repairs on the Carsontown Bridge and the section of Little Pine Creek Rd (Route 4001) between Carsontown and English Center.  Work includes placing structural backfill at the now underpinned abutment and placing rock scour protection around the abutment and along the adjacent streambank.  Additional work between the Carsontown Bridge and English Center will include debris and deposition removal, and stabilization of the slope and shoulder areas. 

Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this emergency flood repair project. Work includes repairing the substructure of the three-span Carsontown Bridge, full depth roadway reconstruction, slope and scour protection, debris and deposition removal, guiderail resetting, base repairs and shoulder backup. 

Little Pine State Park

Little Pine State Park is reopened on a limited basis. (NEW) The shooting and archery range are open. There are limited picnic facilities open in the day use area.

The beach and boat concession are closed for the remainder of the season. Due to safety concerns, the lake remains closed to boating. The Lake Shore Trail and Carsontown Trail remain closed. The campground and Lower Picnic Area remain open. Visitors are asked to use caution and stay out of areas that flood debris remains. Traffic Impacts

  • (UPDATE) Little Pine Creek Road (Route 4001) between Carsontown Road south of the bridge and Big Buck Lodge Lane north of the bridge, Pine Township. A detour using Route 287, Route 973, and Route 44 is in place.
  • Motorists who are traveling to the Little Pine State Park Campground using Route 287 south should use Route 287, Route 973, Route 44, and Little Pine Creek Road.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel and drive with caution.

Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
